:) African American Music Appreciation Month (:

SOOOOO did ya’ll know about this? Cuzzzz I was COMPLETELY CLUELESS! Yes, Clue-LESS…probably worse than the movie!!! Cray, right?

African American Music Appreciation Month (AAMAM), formerly known as Black Music Month, was enacted by former President, Jimmy Carter, on June 7, 1979. He, along with accompanied staff, thought it would be UBER cool to celebrate the neat music our Mocha-Cocoa musicians have performed and composed over the years. Like Carter, the presidents succeeding him have all referenced this highly-esteemed occasion as “Black Music Month.” It wasn’t until ole Barack came along that it began to be duly noted and referenced as African American Music Appreciation Month!!! Either way, I like it…LOTS!

Noticing my Facebook Frenzy Friends mentioning African American Music Appreciation Month, I decided to take a mini poll – or questionnaire, I should say – on who everyone’s favorite African American artists were!

What did I do THAT for?

I got everything from Jimi Hendrix to Tupac…I even got some Old Dirty Bastard!!! LOL I guffawed on that one ya’ll! I almost lost my job when I read “Old Dirty Bastard!!!” But we like what we like, am I right? 😀

Below is a list of the other artists my friends and family enjoy listening to not only during African American Music Appreciation Month but throughout the year as well!

1) Keith Sweat – “I Want Her”
2) Jimi Hendrix – “Purple Haze”
3) Michael Jackson – “Gone too Soon”
4) Prince – “Purple Rain”
5) Otis Redding – “Try a Little Tenderness”
6) Lil Wayne – “How to Love”
7) DRAKE – ‘Started from the Bottom”
8) SWV – “Weak”
9) Aaliyah – “4 Page Letter”
10) Xscape – “Just Kickin’ It”
11) Total – “Kissing You’
12) Toni Braxton – ‘Unbreak my Heart”
13) Anita Baker – “Giving you the BEST that I’ve Got”
14) Tupac – “California Love”
15) Luther Vandross – “There’s Nothing Better than Love”
16) Whitney Houston – “Emotional”
17) OUTKAST – “So Fresh, So Clean”
18) Bobby Womack – “If You Think You’re Lonely Now”
19) Frankie Beverly and Maze – “Joy and Pain”
20) Jodeci – “Come & Talk to Me”
21) Bob Marley – “I Shot the Sheriff”
22) Old Dirty Bastard – “Baby I Got Ya Money”

I’ve given ya’ll the list, so now I charge you guys with the task of taking a gazing gander and a melodic listen to some of these!

TWERK, do the hustle, knock those knees to the 4 corners, drop it like it’s HAUTE, pon de replay, snap ya fingerZZZ, 2 step, and even SHIMMY to these tunes!

Jimmy Carter is da MAN (in my Aloe Blacc voice!) for thinking to do this! It’s probably cuz he’s a Georgia Peach JUST like me! 😉

Remember to Live Life, Beautifully <3
